Message from the Chief

I would like to welcome you to the Lake Royale PD website.  My name is Jarrett Umstead.  I have been in law enforcement since 1995 and have been employed with Lake Royale since March 2002.  I am proud to be a part of the Lake Royale community while leading the best Company Police Agency in North Carolina.

Since becoming Chief of Lake Royale, we have overcome many significant hurdles that Company Police agencies across the state are faced with.  With the adoption of legislative law that empowers us to purchase state contract, we have saved thousands of dollars for our community; no other Company Police Agency has this ability.  Other significant legislative changes include the ability for the Lake Royale PD to engage in Mutual Aid for the purpose of participating in the Franklin County Multi-Agency Narcotics Unit.  Our last legislative advance also granted us authority to patrol and enforce laws on the property not directly owned by Lake Royale- specifically, the 356-acre lake that our property surrounds for the purpose of marine and wildlife law enforcement.  This may seem to be insignificant to some, but in reality, this is the first time in history a Company Police Agency in North Carolina has been granted these special powers.

The goals of this agency are simple.  We strive to protect all citizens who live here permanently, visit our community, and families and friends who vacation and camp in our community.  We place great importance on professionalism and efficiency and the ability to provide a service the community expects and deserves.  We have zero tolerance regarding drug and alcohol violations, and believe they are a significant cause of issues plaguing many communities.  Lake Royale PD focuses on continuously improving our relationship with community leaders, citizens, and outside agencies to build positive relationships and to assist each other when needed.
