On March 31, the members of the Lake Royale
Community Emergency Response Team had the opportunity to work with Franklin
County Emergency Management in a field exercise. The purpose of the day was to
setup and implement a portable decontamination shelter to be used in response
to hazardous materials incidents. This shelter is basically a large bank of
showers that can be used to wash contaminants off victims and responders who
come in contact with chemical, biological or other materials.
Led by Chairman Richard Tafe, other members taking part were Jack Hughes, Richard Wainwright, David Schwartz, Eric Carlson, Sam Gardner, and Stuart Nottingham.
This is the latest opportunity that members of the CERT team have been able to participate with the county. During each season (ice, tornado, hurricane, etc.), representatives of Lake Royale work with the county and municipal departments in planning prior to any possible event. Members of CERT also continue with their own training each month, recently completing courses in CPR and First Aid.
As always, we invite interested property
owners to join us. We meet the first Saturday of each month at the
clubhouse. Application to join can be found on this website. Click on the link at the left. Also on the site are copies of the Emergency
Operations Plan and other documents.
